As a result of the Zimmerman verdict, tensions started to rise in Baltimore. To try to bridge the gap between the cultures, Frank Storch decided to hand out water bottles on a scorching day to the African-American community. Heading out with Israel Bethea, the two purchased hundreds of water bottles and drove up and down Park Heights and Reistertown Road on both sides of the Northern Parkway. They ended up giving out close to 400 bottles.
As Bethea reported, “People were sincerely thankful. It was something small we could do to allay some tension. I was glad to be a part of it.”
